My name is Jin Byun. I am from Vancouver, Canada and I’m currently positioned in Mbarara, Uganda, where I volunteer with ACTS for Water (African Community Technological Service) through Crossroads. As an IT Advisor, I’m helping to build a new database and a website interface that will strengthen their ability and their mission to bring clean, flowing water to remote, rural communities.

By providing easy access to clean water, the team empowers the women and children of the community, as they are the ones who collect water. The work of creating an accessible water system significantly reduced the time and effort spent to collect water, giving the women and children the extra time and energy to engage in a productive acitivities. The Ugandans are hard workers, and given time and energy, they will work to better their lives. Access to water is a key component in ending poverty and restoring the rights of women and children in this country.

As I am on this journey, it is also important that I contribute to Crossroads' mission by way of fundraising.
